About the Minor
Program Director: Dr. Christopher Allen Varlack, Associate Professor The minor in Racism and Antiracism Studies is designed for undergraduate students interested in the history of race/racism and strategies for countering the systems of racism affecting marginalized and underrepresented communities. Courses in the minor will place the historical, social and political contexts informing our understanding of race at the center while providing opportunities for applied antiracism learning. Because this program also provides students with insight into methodologies and perspectives from across the disciplines, it is an excellent option for students who see themselves as agents of change and are dedicated to studying diverse pathways for systemic and policy reform in their respective fields. Through these studies, our students develop the knowledge and skill sets necessary for graduate studies and professional careers in a wide range of fields such as social work, counseling/therapy, law, community health, and more. Requirements
The interdisciplinary minor will require students to complete at least five courses with substantial content on race, racism , and antiracism for a minimum of 20 credits. All students must take and pass an introductory course. From them, they select four courses from a list of options. If a student wishes to count a course not included in the list of elective courses for the Racism and Antiracism Studies minor, the course must be reviewed and accepted by the program director.
