Support Services for Students with Disabilities
As an institution of higher education, Arcadia University has the responsibility of informing students with disabilities about the process of requesting reasonable accommodations. It is the student’s responsibility to initiate requests for accommodations and services by identifying themselves with Disability Support Services (DSS) and to provide appropriate supporting documentation (unless the disability is obvious). Such disclosures are kept confidential. Students must register with DSS in order to receive academic accommodations, housing accommodations, or other services due to a disability.
For each subsequent semester that they are enrolled at Arcadia University, students need to request letters of accommodation through DSS for any classes in which they’d like to receive their accomodations. Ideally, this should occur before classes begin in order to put the necessary accommodations in place before the start of the semester; however, students may request accommodations at any time. Once approved, students do not need to provide updated documentation unless they are requesting new or additional accommodations that are not supported by the current documentation on file.
