About Health Sciences, B.A.

The growing landscape of healthcare offers many and varied opportunities to address the health needs of individuals through health systems, clinical practice, and the broad health ecosystem, while also being mindful of societal health impacts and disparities. This Health Sciences major (B.S. and B.A.) will provide students with a grounding in the medical and clinical aspects of healthcare as well as the social underpinnings of disease and wellness. Students from other programs can also minor in health sciences.

The major is offered through the College of Health Sciences and includes interdisciplinary coursework in health sciences, healthcare administration, public health, statistics, biology, and chemistry. The B.A. is intended for students interested in careers in health sciences that might not require graduate-level clinical or non-clinical health degrees. It carries a lighter credit load than the B.S. and involves fewer science courses to allow more flexibility in acquiring a double major or a minor. Coupling of degrees in health or other related disciplines can prepare students for a broad array of opportunities in the health ecosystem, immediately following college or after completing advanced studies.

This major is designed for students who want to work in health-related disciplines or areas that might not require advanced studies. It allows for familiarity with health systems and professions as well as analytical skills commonly needed in a variety of health settings, from non-profits to health systems.
