HSC 430 Applied Experiences in Health Sciences 4 Credits Applied Experiences in Health Sciences provides students with hands-on opportunities to bridge theory and practice in real-world health settings. Combining classroom instruction with experiential learning, the course explores diverse aspects of the health sciences while fostering essential professional skills. Grounded in experiential learning theory (Kolb, 1984), the course emphasizes a dynamic cycle of observation, reflection, and practical application, preparing students to address challenges in healthcare and the broader health ecosystem effectively.
Students will engage in observation and shadowing experiences across various health settings, including non-profit, clinical, and non-clinical environments. These experiences culminate in a final project, where students synthesize and reflect on their insights gained through practical engagement.
In addition to fieldwork, the course prioritizes professional development, equipping students for healthcare careers through activities such as resume building, LinkedIn profile creation, and interview preparation. By the course’s conclusion, students will have not only a deeper understanding of health science professions but also a robust set of tools to support their career aspirations.
