PL 340 Sex & Love (4 credits)
| Are sex and love simply benefits of certain relationships and private feelings, or might they be among the most powerful dimensions of personal and social life? This advanced seminar will look at key elements of human experience and interpersonal relationships, including desire, pleasure, care, trust, and intimacy. We will look at how these elements shape our relationships to our bodies, to our selves, and to others. In addition, we will look at how power is implicated in these aspects of our lives through an examination of shame, taboo, proscription, and prohibition. Most importantly we will explore those resistant ways of being and ways of knowing that challenge, subvert, and overcome these obstacles to genuine connection and flourishing. |
Prerequisite: Students must be in their 3rd year of college coursework or have instructor permission.
