EN 324 The Whole Novel Workshop

(4 Credits)
The Whole Novel Workshop is a writing workshop course for upper level (junior or senior) undergraduate students or graduate students interested in working toward drafting a full novel. The main goals are to develop an understanding of how to craft a novel and a sense of one’s own writing process. The course will guide students to a deep understanding of craft and honing voice. In addition, students will learn about the publishing industry including the path to publishing – from formatting a submittable manuscript to researching agents and writing query letters. Students may come to this class with an idea for a novel or a novel-in-progress. Students must be prepared to read novels and produce pages of original fiction. Each three-hour class will include some combination of a lecture/discussion on a craft topic, information related to the publishing industry, a generative creative writing exercise, and a workshop.

Prerequisite: None, but students should be upper level (junior or senior).
