TH 160 Foundations of Stage Movement

(4 Credits)
Foundations of Stage Movement provides an introduction to actor movement training. Students will develop understanding of the body and physical language as instruments of expression and communication. Students will gain an enhanced ability to use that instrument optimally through exploration of the actor’s relationship to the body and applying that to the physical reality of the stage. The course is based on multiple movement theories/approaches that will be presented in a cohesive and interwoven framework, built to deepen the actor’s physical awareness and approach to characterization. This course emphasizes consent as foundation, sustainable work habits, emotional metabolization, physical health through creating space in the actor’s body, and the development of individual and ensemble creativity. No prior training or experience is required.
