Secondary Education 7-12 Certification Requirements

The Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education (Grades 7-12) is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and who seek to qualify for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification at the secondary level in the following content areas:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English
  • General Science
  • Math
  • Social Studies

Education Courses Tier 4

Requires completion of all professional education and content area courses.

  • (6 credits) (credits not applicable to master’s degree or culminating activity) 
  • OR

  • (3 credits) (for candidates who hold an active and valid Instructional I or II level certification - credits not applicable to the degree or culminating activity)

Related Cognate Required Courses

  • Speech Communications Course (CM 100 level: CM110)
  • Advanced Writing Course (EN200 level: EN240)
  • Advanced Writing Course (EN300 level: EN375)
  • Advance Literature Course (EN200 or EN300 level: EN322)
