BI 326 Fire & Disturbance Ecology

(4 Credits)
This course explores the ecological effects of disturbances, including fire, wind, water, and humans, on natural systems. Perspectives include diverse spatial (population, community, ecosystem, and landscape) and temporal scales (historical, contemporary, and predicting future effects). The course covers both plants and animals. Particular emphasis is given to natural fire and prescribed fire as a management technique. This course will be especially helpful for students interested in pursuing careers or graduate study in natural resources, forestry, wildlife biology, conservation biology, or ecology. Laboratories are held outdoors. This course satisfies the plant lab requirement for the biology major.
