IS 101 Introduction to Global Studies

(4 Credits)
What made the world the way it is? How do global politics and the global economy work? Why is there global conflict? Why are there such profound inequalities around the world? Why do people move around the world and why are there barriers to these movements? Do we have global governance? Where did climate change come from and why is it so hard to work together to do something about it? Is there a global “culture”? And, most importantly, who in the world are you and what will your role in the world be? These are just some of the big questions that we address in Introduction to Global Studies. This course takes an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on the study of history, culture, society, politics, and economics, to explore these and other big questions about what makes the world the way it is.
