CH 202 Organic Chemistry II

(4 Credits)
Continuation of CH 201. Survey of the properties of organic functional groups: organometallics, conjugated systems, aromatics, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and their derivatives, amines, and carbohydrates. Mass, infrared, ultraviolet, and visible spectroscopy. Laboratory work stresses the synthesis, separation, identification, and analysis of selected organic compounds using both micro- and macroscale techniques. ¹H-NMR spectra are routinely acquired and analyzed.

Three class hours and three laboratory hours weekly.

Prerequisite: CH 201.
Corequisite: CH 202L
