EN 651 The Harlem Renaissance


This course is a consideration of the social, political and literary factors leading to the flowering of black genius in the arts. Texts include classics by and about the Black Manhattan to be examined from the political as well as the aesthetic perspective. Writers include Jean Toomer, Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Zora Neale Hurston, Nella Larsen, W.E.B. DuBois, Alain Locke, Countee Cullen, Rudolph Fisher and Sterling Brown.
