About the Degree
The B.S. in Biotechnology is intended to prepare students for careers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Our curriculum teaches students the fundamentals of genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology, and applies that knowledge towards groundbreaking technologies and therapies such as gene editing, immunotherapies, and gene therapy. Importantly, nearly all of our courses include hands-on labs, during which students will gain experience with valuable skills such as: -
Cell and tissue culture -
DNA, RNA, and protein purification -
Gel electrophoresis and chromatography -
Fluorescent microscopy -
Immunoassays -
Cloning, PCR, and gene editing -
Bioinformatics Students can also gain relevant experience by completing independent research under the mentorship of our faculty or by pursuing an internship at one of the many universities, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in the greater Philadelphia area. Students graduating with a degree in Biotechnology will be competitive for entry-level positions in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, such as: -
Research specialist/technician -
Manufacturing specialist/technician -
Associate scientist -
Quality control analyst -
Clinical research assistant Required Biology Courses (36 credits)
