Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Certification

A Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction is a K-12 district-wide specialist in curriculum and instruction and is responsible for performing the following duties:

  • supervising instruction and evaluating staff as designated by the school superintendent;
  • designing and developing curriculum, learning materials and innovative educational programs;
  • conducting experimental instructional programs,
  • directing and conducting basic or applied educational research.

Pennsylvania Administrative/Supervisory Certification


Pennsylvania Department of Education approved programs of graduate study. Must be planned with an academic adviser to ensure completion of all program requirements. 

Candidates must meet with an academic adviser during the final year of coursework to plan for the internship sequence and begin work on their professional portfolio. 

Professional Education Course Requirements


All content courses are 8-weeks and are delivered online, asynchronously. Students may begin courses in Fall, Spring, or Summer. All internship courses run for 15-week semesters in Fall, Spring, and Summer. 

Certification Requirements


Curriculum and Instruction supervisory certificate requires five years of certified service on a state issued public school certificate in the school program area for which the certificate is sought. The service  must be (i) valid for the assignment in the state in which such service was performed, and (ii) comparable to Pennsylvania’s Type 01 or 04 emergency permit or Intern, Level I or Level II certificate.
