Principal (PK–12), Certification

Pennsylvania Administrative/Supervisory Certification

Pennsylvania Department of Education approved programs of graduate study.  Must be planned with an academic adviser to ensure completion of all program requirements. All content courses are 8-weeks and are delivered online, asynchronously. Students may begin courses in fall, spring, or summer. All internship courses run for 15-week semesters in Fall, Spring, and Summer.

Candidates must meet with an academic adviser during the final year of coursework to plan for the internship sequence and begin work on their professional portfolio.

• ED 633 School Law (3 credits)
• ED 634 Managing Organization and Change (3 credits)
• ED 635 Supervision of Teaching and Learning (3 credits)
• ED 637 Instructional Leadership (3 credits)
• ED 638 School Finance (3 credits)
• ED 645 Human Resources and Negotiations (3 credits)
• ED 647 Leading Schools with Data-Driven Decision Making (3 credits)
• ED 639 A,B,C Practicum: Principal K-12 (1 credit each semester)

• NOTE: The three internship semesters must be taken consecutively; however, they may be taken in any order. The leadership portfolio must be submitted after completing the third consecutive semester.

Certification Requirements

Principal certification requires three years of satisfactory instructional or student support experience completed in a public or private PK-12 school or accredited institution of higher education.
