Secondary Education 7-12 Certification Requirements

The Post Baccalaureate Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education (Grades 7-12) is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and who seek to qualify for Pennsylvania Teacher Certification at the secondary level in Mathematics

Professional Education Courses Tier 1

• ED 503 General Foundations of Education in the U.S. (3 credits)
• ED 580 Introduction to Inclusive Education (3 credits)
• ED 565 Introduction to Instructional Technology (3 credits)
• ED 622 ESL: Teaching Multilingual and Multicultural Literacies (3 credits)

Professional Education Courses Tier 2

• ED 523 The Teacher and the Classroom, Secondary (3 credits)
• ED 606S Strategic Instruction for Emergent and Content Literacy, 7–12 (3 credits)

Professional Education Courses Tier 3

• ED 511 Stage 3 Fieldwork
• ED 512 Differentiated Instruction in the Inclusion Classroom (3 credits)
• ED 526B Learning and Assessment in Secondary Mathematics (3 credits)

Professional Education Courses Tier 4

Requires completion of all professional education and content area courses.

• ED 471 Graduate Student Teaching, Secondary (6 credits) (credits not applicable to master’s degree or culminating activity)  OR   
• ED 583B Fieldwork (3 credits) (for candidates who hold an active and valid Instructional I or II level certification - credits not applicable to the degree or culminating activity)
