AH 230 The Art and Architecture of Ancient Egypt


(3 Credits)
This course will be an intensive survey of the art and architecture of Ancient Egypt from Prehistory to the Egypto-Roman period. The course will focus on the belief systems, historical moments, and daily life of the Egyptians through the lens of the artifacts and monuments they created as well as the cultural and artistic impact Egyptian art has had on the western world. The course may also address Egyptian attitudes about race and cultural identity as well as how they viewed gender and sexuality. The course will be a writing intensive course delivered in lecture format, but will also include in-class discussion and opportunities for peer review. Students will be required to take two exams, but the grading of the course will mostly consist of research and writing assignments in which the students will acquire the skills to identity proper, academic resources, as well as in the editing, and revision process.
