PT 887B Independent Study- International Service Learning

  • The goals of this course align with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) health equity guide, which states that “all communities have the conditions, resources, opportunities, and power to attain optimal health, and to know health is a human right.” With this in mind, Arcadia University has sought intentional partnerships with organizations that align with the goal of sustainable access to physical therapy services that ultimately no longer obligate service learning trips. This course also aims to empower participants to engage in local & global health-oriented work with critical thoughtfulness as both professional healthcare providers, and as individuals.
  • During this course, students will have the opportunity to collaborate with an international partner and engage with topics such as: probono healthcare, healthcare for groups that have been historically marginalized (economically, socially, racially) and underserved, transdisciplinary healthcare, and sustainable global healthcare considerations. As a result, this immersive experience requires cultural humility, critical thinking, evidence-based practice balanced with creativity, and self-reflection.
