PY 342 Experimental Psychology II (4 Credits) The purpose of PY342, Experimental Psychology II, at Arcadia is for students to become increasingly self-sufficient in carrying out psychology research. The course involves three foundational components, each designed to help students acquire and/or hone the skills you need for the next component.
First, students will solidify research methods, statistical, and communication skills students practiced in PY242. Working in small groups, students will develop an original psychological experiment and 1) apply ethical research practices to the actual collection and handling of data, (2) analyze that data with statistical skills, and (3) develop expertise in a particular topic of psychological research. Lastly, students will apply the skills gained to write an original research proposal entirely on their own as a follow-up to the group research project. This course includes lectures, class discussions, team projects, and experiential activities. This course requires attendance and participation as many weeks involve in-person data collection and development of team projects. This course is typically taken by junior psychology majors.
Prerequisite: PY 242 completion required; MA 141 and preferably a Junior by credits and preferably taken with PY 331 or PY 332 .
