About the Certificate
The purpose of this program is to prepare individuals to teach English as a foreign language (Teach English Abroad) to adults and youth in our local and regional communities who want to learn English; as well as obtain the knowledge and skills to teach English in settings abroad.
In the TEFL field, there are teaching opportunities in many parts of the world, and those with a recognized TEFL certificate are in high demand. Arcadia University’s reputation in teacher education, TESOL education and study abroad provides the name recognition that make our graduates appealing to employers. Career options can be found in private language institutes, public schools, universities and business corporations, NGO/nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, international and Department of Defense schools, as well as private tutoring and voluntary work worldwide.
Our program distinguishes itself from other programs because of its intensive, supervised experiences in sites overseas during the summer session. Our collaborations with Arcadia’s Office of International Affairs and the Peace Corps Prep program provides unique hands-on opportunities for students to learn TEFL in context abroad.
