About the Program

Today’s society is recognizing the experiences and needs of transgender people as never before. This trend is most evident in our nation’s schools, where an increasing number of transgender and gender non-conforming students live openly as their authentic selves. At the same time, parents, students, educators, administrators and other stakeholders are working together to determine the best ways to support these students.  As a result the demand for professional development in this area continues to grow.

The programs are for teachers, administrators, school professionals, educational advocates, educational leaders, and parents raising gender nonconforming children who would like to learn about strategies to develop and advocate for inclusive and safe learning environments for LGBTQ and gender non-conforming youth. The programs provide students with theoretical foundations and pedagogical strategies to enable them to work effectively in the fields of gender and sexual diversity in education. The programs encompass three threads:

  1. Conceptual frameworks for gender and sexual diversity for educators and leaders best practices.
  2. Emerging theory and praxis for gender non-conforming students.
  3. Pedagogical applications within the students’ specific educational contexts.
