About the Program

This Majors Abroad Program (MAP) has an interdisciplinary focus on politics, history, international relations, and French language and culture.

The Major in French and Francophone Studies strongly encourages the student to spend one or two semesters abroad in France. Visit studyabroad.arcadia.edu for more information. Students may choose to spend a semester abroad in another French speaking region or country, for instance, at l’Universite de Laval, Quebec.

Requirements

(44 credits)

Note: Students with no background in French must complete the series FR 101 , FR 102 , FR 201  before entering the major. A grade of at least a C- in FR 201  must be earned in order to take FR 202 , which is the first course that counts toward the major. Students who have a previous knowledge of French will be placed according to their performance on the French placement inventory.

One linguistics course taught outside the department (in English) may count towards the major or minor. Only one course in English can be counted toward the minor.
