About the Certificate
Many families today have individuals with mental health needs. Counselors are needed who are trained specifically to treat children, adolescents, and their families. Courses focus on child and family mental health, including assessment, diagnosis, and various evidence-based therapeutic treatments. This certificate also emphasizes the importance of cultural sensitivity and cultural tailoring in working with youth and families from diverse backgrounds. If you are a licensed professional counselor, a doctoral level psychologist, or have a master’s degree in a clinical field such as counseling or social work, this certificate program is designed to meet your continuing education needs in child and family therapy.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the general admission procedures, a student also must hold a master’s or doctoral degree in a field closely related to the practice of professional counseling from an accredited college or university. Test scores are not required.
