About the Program
The Master of Education in Reading with certification in Reading Specialist K-12 is designed for professionals in education or related fields to:
- Increase understanding of reading processes and their connections to writing processes and learning across the curriculum.
- Develop a complex understanding of the social, cultural, psychological and political dimensions of literacy policies and practices for diverse learners, schools and communities.
- Increase knowledge of literacy research, theory, and practice in ways that can provide leadership in local schools and school districts.
- Obtain certification as a reading specialist.
Requirements (minimum 36 credits)
Foundation Courses (6 credits)
Chosen in consultation with the adviser.
Concentration (21 credits)
Electives (3 credits)
Chosen in consultation with the adviser.
Culminating Activity (3 credits)
Note: Permission to enroll in ED 595 must be obtained from the program Coordinator one semester prior to the student’s registration for the course.
