EN 235 Editing and Publishing the Small Literary Magazine
This course is an analytical and practical introduction to both the editing and publishing of literary magazines. Students will read essays from and about literary magazines in order to gain an understanding of the history of the medium, as well as the current discourse surrounding it. They will also examine the process of literary editing from a theoretical vantage point, looking at essays by editors, editor-author correspondence, and original & edited texts. In addition to this academic work, students in the course will serve as Readers for the university’s undergraduate literary magazine, Quiddity, wherein they will have the opportunity to apply the theoretical components of the class by reading, evaluating, editing, and curating student-produced work.
