PT 694 Advanced Sports Physical Therapy Practice of the Spine


(2 credits)
This is a required course for the sports physical therapy residency program. Course content will focus on advanced practice topics in the areas of the spine injury and head trauma for the sports physical therapy resident. This course provides a detailed background of the anatomy and biomechanics of the lumbar spine, cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, pelvic floor and head trauma. Emphasis will be placed on best practice and current evidence to support examination and intervention techniques of the head and spine as it relates to an athletic population. This course will utilize a weekly web-based lecture in addition to on-line web-based activities via Canvas.The course will culminate in a hands-on laboratory weekend in order for the clinician to demonstrate proficiency in selected physical therapy examination and intervention techniques of the spine at a post graduate residency level.

Prerequisite:  

PT 694 is a required course in a closed Sports Residency Program. Prior approval of the Program Director is required prior to enrollment in the course. Admission criteria is outlined in the attached Sports Residency Handbook under policies
