PY 342 Experimental Psychology II

(4 Credits)
The purpose of PY342, Experimental Psychology II, at Arcadia is for students to become increasingly self-sufficient in carrying out psychology research. The course involves three foundational components, each designed to help students acquire and/or hone the skills you need for the next component.

First, we will solidify the research method knowledge and statistical skills students began acquiring in PY242. Students will be able to conduct and write about statistical analyses entirely on their own. Next, they will collect data for an original social-personality psychological experiment in small groups and in doing so will (1) apply ethical research practices to actual collection and handling of data, (2) analyze that data with statistical skills, and (3) develop expertise in a particular topic in social, personality, and/or other areas of psychology. Lastly, students will combine the skills gained from these two components to design and write an original research proposal entirely on their own as a fellow up to the group research project. This proposal will conclude with a poster show and reflection.

Prerequisite: PY 242  completion required; MA 141  and preferably a Junior by credits and preferably taken with PY 331  or PY 332 .
