BI 317 Developmental Biology (4 Credits) This course is a study of the processes of cell differentiation, tissue morphogenesis, and organogenesis in animals. This course draws upon both classic and modern experimental research to explore the underlying genetic mechanisms that drive development. While most of the course focuses on embryonic development, current topics of research including evolution of development, regenerative biology, and the biology of aging are also included. The lab includes hands-on application of developmental technology techniques using classic model organisms such as sea urchins, chicks, and flies.
Three class hours and three laboratory hours weekly. Fall.
Prerequisite: BI 204 , or written permission of the instructor and Department Chair. Corequisite: BI317L
