IS 101 Introduction to International Studies This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of International Studies. Key themes and issues focused on include globalization, development, poverty, and human rights. The course explores how political, social and economic inequalities are produced and how they affect a variety of peoples and regions differently. Students examine the evolution of nation-state sovereignty and the inter-related impacts of other subnational and supra-national actors, groups and forces such as those of global markets and non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations. In addition, students learn how the disciplines of history, anthropology, political science and economics engage the central topics of International Studies in distinct ways.
