BI 330 Conservation Biology Conservation biology is an emerging field of biology that documents the loss of worldwide biodiversity, seeks to understand the genetic and ecological characteristics of declining populations, and devises strategies to prevent further losses. Topics explored include conservation ethics, taxonomic definitions, global patterns of biodiversity, genetic diversity within species, demographic processes, species interactions, extinctions and invasions, habitat fragmentation, conservation reserves and ecological restoration. The course consists of lectures and weekly discussion of primary literature.
Three class hours weekly Spring
Prerequisite: BI 101 , BI 102 and BI 242 ; or written permission of the instructor and Department Chair.
