PY 614 Couples Counseling

This graduate course is designed to introduce students to the history, theory, and evidence-based approaches in couples counseling. Students will become familiar with theories regarding couples’ functioning; develop interviewing and assessment skills specific to working with couples; be able to use theories, assessment data, and research evidence to conceptualize couples’ issues and create treatment plans; apply evidence-based techniques; explore the influence of multicultural factors on couples’ functioning and understand their implications for therapy; and, become aware of one’s own biases and their impact on the therapeutic processes.
