PY 613 Family Counseling


This graduate course is designed to introduce students to the history, theory, and evidence-based approaches in family/systems counseling. Students will become familiar with theories regarding family functioning; develop interviewing and assessment skills specific to working with families; be able to use theories, assessment data, and research evidence to conceptualize family issues and create treatment plans; apply evidence-based techniques; explore the influence of multicultural factors on family functioning and understand their implications for counseling; and, become aware of one’s own biases and their impact on the therapeutic processes.
